Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 10 AM: Cynthia Steinhoff’s lecture will be “A Tale in Two Cities: Needlework Teacher Deborah Hicks Mundall” via Zoom.
Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10 AM: Mary Brooks’s lecture will be “Quaker Education Through the Eye of a Needle” via Zoom. Mary is the former Archivist (now retired) at the Westtown School, a noted Quaker boarding school that has been in existence since May 1799. Mary is the author of Threads of Useful Learning: Westtown School Samplers, which is still available through the school. The lecture will be via Zoom.
Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 10 AM: Cynthia Steinhoff will return with a fascinating lecture, “Baltimore’s Eyeglass Gate Samplers” via Zoom.
Saturday, July 8, 2023 we will be taking a tour of the samplers at Mt. Notre Dame.
We also are planning on joining Dayton EGA for two lectures:
June 14 at 11 AM - Clare Hunter: “The Significance of Sewing (Exploring the social, emotional and political significance of sewing through centuries and across cultures)”. Clare is the author of Threads of Life (subtitle is “A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle”) and Embroidering Her Truth (Mary, Queen of Scots). Via Zoom only.
Oct 11 at 11 AM - Cynthia Amnéus from the Cincinnati Art Museum: “The Art of Love and Death: Understanding Ornamental Hairwork,” which is a very Victorian thing to do! Via Zoom only.
